Venue: Vale do Lobo Auditorium
Explore Europe with the Continental Journey Concert on Saturday, 10th June with a performance by the Coro dos Amigos do Museu choir from São Bras de Alportel.
During the performance the choir will be presenting various pieces, including Gloria by Vivaldi and Haydn’s Insanae et Vanae Curae, taking the audience on a trip around Europe with other pieces from France, Spain, Portugal, Britain, Holland and Austria.
The choir is made up of some 25 members from countries including Canada, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland and the United Kingdom and is led by Maestro António Manuel Maria de Jesus who has been the artistic director of many choral festivals in the Algarve, touring with his choirs to Spain, France, Holland, Switzerland and Brazil.
The choir was founded in 2006, when choral conductor Walter Sulzer decided to see if he could find singers interested in joining a mixed choir that could interpret polyphonic music from the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Five women responded to his advertisement and four of them are still with the choir today.
Being such an international group, it is appropriate that the choir sings in various languages, and the repertoire has now been extended from the original Renaissance and Baroque to include songs from many eras, as well as both traditional Portuguese folk songs and works by Portuguese composers. The choir has appeared in many cities in the Algarve and has taken part in the Choral Festival of the Algarve and the Choral Week of Lagoa, as well as performing in concert with other choral and instrumental groups.
The Continental Journey concert is an ideal opportunity to experience the diversity of the choir and the pieces they perform in a single performance.
